First Dublin International Traditional Taekwon-Do Seminar held 21st & 22nd August 2010

The First International Traditional Taekwon-Do two-day Seminar held in Sheldon Park, Dublin was an outstanding success with fifty participants from Canada, Spain, Poland, Moldova, Germany and Ireland in attendance.

The Seminar Instruction Team was led by Grand Master Lim Ching Sing from Canada with Senior Masters Francesc Campanya from Spain and Paul Kavanagh from Ireland.

Grand Master Lim (www.advanced-taekwondo.com) is a Board Director (acting) of the International Traditional Taekwon-Do Federation (ITTAF).

Senior Master Campanya (www.tkdlinyan.weebly.com) is a Board Director (acting) of ITTAF with responsibility for Technical Instruction.

Senior Master Kavanagh (www.masterpaulkavanagh.com) is a Board Director (acting) of ITTAF with responsibility for Finance and Administration and he is also the President of the ITTAF NGB for Ireland, Traditional Taekwon-Do Ireland Association.

The Seminar began with revision and correction of the technical and basic fundamentals of Traditional Taekwon-Do. Master Campanya led the session supported by Grand Master Lim and Master Kavanagh. The Masters explained and demonstrated how to perform and execute the proper stances and the blocking/attacking techniques. Minor errors of interpretation were corrected and practised during this session.

Grand Master Lim led the second session which concentrated on practical blocking, kicking and punching in preparation for real life situations, e.g., defence against experienced “street fighters” and attack by street gangs. The various techniques were practised over and over again until the participants received a good grounding in the application of the techniques.

After the informative and strenuous morning session there was some stretching techniques practised and a warm down before lunch.

After lunch on day one Grand Master Lim commenced the session on the hidden moves in the Patterns (Tul).

Grand Master Lim said “just as an oak tree never stops growing, we need to continue learning and upgrading”. After 45 years of continuously training and learning from many great Grand Masters of the world, Grand Master Lim who personally spent a considerable time with the Legendary Founder of Taekwon-Do, General Choi Hong-Hi, fully understands the deadly combat moves hidden in the Taekwon-Do patterns (Tul) that martial artists practice.

These hidden moves are simple yet take a long time to digest and assimilate. What he learnt from the past has helped him to progress forward and manage to transform all the hidden moves in Taekwon-Do into obvious tactics that Gen Choi had hidden and envisioned.

The seminar participants were truly amazed at the deadly self-defence techniques performed by Grand Master Lim who gave a very informative session on how to perform them.

Master Campanya completed the day one sessions with revision of the Patterns (Tul) supported by Grand Master Lim and Master Kavanagh.

In the evening a very enjoyable Masters Dinner hosted by Master Kavanagh was held in the hotel followed by singing and dancing to live music.

Day two commenced with a gradual warm up and stretching to ease and loosen up the participants who were recovering from the intensity of the day one sessions.

The Masters conducted a full revision of the day one activities followed by a continuation of the Patterns (Tul) up to Tong-Il with a full explanation and practice of each movement in the Patterns.

Grand Master Lim conducted a question and answer session covering all aspects of Traditional Taekwon-Do including some history.

The final session concentrated on Martial Art Sparring (Matsogi) with several interesting and exciting variations of Free Sparring (Jayu Matsogi).

Following stretching and warm down Grand Master Lim presented Certificates of Attendance to all the participants who were each warmly congratulated by Masters Campanya and Kavanagh.

All members were very satisfied with the Seminar and they wanted to know “when can we have the next seminar”. One visitor expressed the opinion that “we did a month’s training over the two days”.
